Please read this contract carefully as it is a legally binding document. If you have any questions or concerns or disagree with the contents of any portion of this contract, please contact your Adoption Manager at TEAM Cat Rescue to discuss before signing. Please note that TEAM accepts returns of ALL its previously adopted cat(s) at any time for any reason. Thank you for adopting! This Agreement is entered into between the undersigned Adopter and Team Cat Rescue (“TEAM”) (collectively, the “Parties”) with respect to the adoption of the cat described herein (“Cat”). The Parties agree as follows:

Terms & Conditions*
- The Adopter will pay to TEAM a prescribed Adoption Fee to adopt the Cat, subject to the terms in this Agreement.
- The Adoption Fee includes a physical exam, spay/neuter, deworming, microchip implant, and initial FVRCP and Rabies vaccinations for the Cat (collectively, “Vetting”). Should the Cat be adopted before all of the Vetting is completed, the Adopter agrees to arrange with TEAM to get the remaining Vetting completed at one of TEAM’s partner vet clinics. Microchip registration of the Cat will only be transferred to the Adopter once all of the Vetting has been completed.
- With respect to a Cat that is still a kitten at the time of this Agreement, the Adopter agrees to bring the Cat for a spay/neuter surgery at a TEAM partner vet clinic prior to the Cat reaching six (6) months of age. Failure to comply with this term will result in a penalty of $1,000 payable by the Adopter.
- The Adopter understands that the Adoption Fee for any given Cat is spent on expenses incurred for the care of other cats rescued from euthanasia and is presumptively non-refundable. Notwithstanding this, TEAM may, at its sole discretion, offer a partial refund consisting of the Adoption Fee less any necessary boarding fees for the Cat incurred by TEAM from the date the Cat is returned until a foster placement for the returned Cat is found (“Partial Refund”).
- A Partial Refund will only be considered by TEAM if all of the following conditions are met: a. The Adopter immediately alerts TEAM of any medical or behavioral issues relating to the Cat that arise after the Cat is in the Adopter’s care; b. The Adopter diligently follows TEAM’s instructions on how to deal with any reported medical or behavioural issues with the Cat; c. Within 5 days of picking up the Cat from TEAM, the Adopter informs TEAM of their intent to return the Cat and cooperates with TEAM to facilitate the return of the Cat; and d. The Adopter did not make any misrepresentations on their TEAM adoption application form or mislead TEAM in any way during the adoption screening process for the Cat.
- The Adopter will keep the Cat in their personal possession as a companion animal, and will not use the Cat for breeding, experimental, vivisection, or other purposes.
- The Adopter will treat the Cat humanely by providing adequate food, water, socialization, and shelter, as well as preventative, acute, and emergency medical care. In particular, the Adopter will take the Cat for yearly veterinarian wellness checks and ensure that the Cat’s core vaccines are kept up to date at all times.
- The Adopter will never subject the Cat to declawing or any other painful and unnecessary elective or cosmetic procedures.
- The Adopter will educate themself, and all household members, with respect to their responsibilities towards the Cat, and will ensure that no family member, child, resident, or visitor physically or emotionally mistreats the Cat or otherwise violates this Agreement.
- The Adopter will keep the Cat strictly indoors, and never allow the Cat uncontrolled access outdoors. In particular, unless tethered and supervised or secured by a catio or other enclosure, the Cat shall not be given access to balconies, backyards, terraces, porches, or otherwise be permitted to free-roam outside. To the extent that the Cat may need to be transported, the Adopter will use a secure carrier to do so.
- If the Cat becomes lost, the Adopter will make immediate efforts to locate it and if not found, to notify TEAM within 24 hours of the Cat going missing. The Adopter will also promptly notify any other animal shelters and groups who may help to recover the Cat. If TEAM offers to assist or provides advice in the search for the Cat, the Adopter will cooperate with TEAM accordingly.
- Should the Cat ever become impounded, the Adopter will promptly claim the Cat and pay all charges/fines necessary to secure the Cat’s return.
- If the Cat is part of a bonded pair adopted together, the Adopter agrees never to separate the Cat from its bonded mate.
- If at any time during the life of the Cat, TEAM receives information that raises a concern for the safety/well-being of the Cat, the Adopter will facilitate a home visit by a TEAM representative to check on the welfare of the Cat. Should TEAM discover any inhumane treatment of this Cat and/or breach of this Agreement, the Adopter agrees to immediately relinquish possession of the Cat to TEAM.
- In the event that the Adopter can no longer properly care for or keep the Cat for any reason (including inability to afford veterinary care for the diagnoses and/or treatment of any medical conditions), the Adopter will immediately contact TEAM to make arrangements for the Cat to be returned to TEAM. Once arrangements have been made, the Adopter will provide safe transport of the Cat, and will also return any paperwork/supplies provided by TEAM at the time of the return, as well as provide access to any vet records for the Cat generated while the Cat was in the Adopter’s possession.
- Under no circumstances will the Cat be given away, sold, discarded, prematurely euthanized, or surrendered to any municipal pound, shelter, humane society, rescue organization, or research centre for any purpose, or rehomed to any other person or entity without prior written consent from TEAM.
- Although every reasonable effort has been made by TEAM to ascertain and disclose the health and disposition of the Cat to the Adopter, TEAM makes no guarantees, representations, or warranties with respect to the Cat except as specifically set out in this Agreement.
- Any veterinary or other expenses incurred for the Cat after the date of this Agreement will be the sole responsibility of the Adopter unless prior written consent from TEAM has been obtained. To the extent that TEAM may, on a case-by-case basis, be willing to assist with short term veterinary expenses relating to pre-existing, unknown and/or undisclosed medical conditions of the Cat identified within 30 days of this Agreement, such care will be arranged through TEAM and provided only through TEAM approved veterinary clinics. The Adopter is encouraged to contact TEAM for any advice or concerns for any post-adoption medical/behavioural issues via email or TEAM’s Facebook Medical group.
- The Adopter acknowledges that adopting any animal inherently carries various risks, including but not limited to, the risk of being bitten or scratched by the animal, the risk of damage to personal property or dwelling, and risk of injury, disease, or contagions spread to both human and other animal occupants of the Adopter’s home. TEAM will not be responsible for any injuries or damages that may arise out of the adoption of the Cat.
- In particular, the Adopter agrees to release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless TEAM, its directors, agents, veterinary partners, and volunteers, from all claims, causes of action or demands of any nature or cause, including costs and legal expenses incurred by TEAM in connection with same, based on damages or injuries which may be incurred or sustained by the Adopter or others in any way connected with the Cat, including but not limited to animal bites, accidents or injuries.
- If the Adopter breaches any of the terms of this Agreement, TEAM may commence a legal action or application to obtain monetary damages, injunctive relief and/or specific performance of this Agreement, including, but not limited to, the return of the Cat to TEAM. In addition, TEAM will seek from the Adopter the recovery of all legal fees and disbursements incurred by TEAM in such legal proceedings, up to a maximum of $50,000.
- In the event that any particular provision or part of one in this Agreement is found to be void, voidable, or unenforceable for any reason whatsoever, then that particular provision or part of the provision shall be deemed severed from the remainder of this Agreement, and all other provisions shall remain in force.
- It is agreed that there is no representation, express or implied warranty, collateral agreement, or condition affecting this Agreement except as expressed within it.
- This Agreement may be executed virtually and in counterpart, and is governed by the laws of Ontario.
